There are at least three search engines in gemini space and after running a site here for several months, I have just been found!
From the author of one, it seems there was some bug with crawling my particular site, not sure what. The other is a bit of a mystery as the site is actually listed in their index of known sites but no content is findable. And for the third, it's index hadn't been updated in ~7 months.
I really liked a piece of software, that the author of the last search engine created, StarGate.
So I started looking into building their engine and running an instance myself. I reached out with a question and turns out they were unaware that the crawler hadn't run and kicked it off, a few hours later and the index was up to date.
It could just be that the index is not yet complete, or some rules about excluding stale data kicked in with the long gap but the slight increase in the number of unique sites but major drop in pages is interesting. There is an open issue reporting a spam site, asking if it could be filtered out. Boggles the mind that anyone would create seo spam in gemini space. Perhaps it was AI poison? But again, why here?
