can you explain
🚀 stack · 2024-12-10 at 16:07:
Depleted cheese receptors are a major cause of depression, according to my (yet unpublished) data, and may lead to other unpleasant outcomes.
Sheep cheeses appear to cause stronger withdrawal symptoms.

@satch Yes. Phenelzine's mechanism of action makes you vulnerable to adverse effects from certain foods. This mainly includes food high in tyramine, like cheese and wine. Phenelzine inhibits the enzyme that breaks tyramine down, so it leads to too much tyramine in your body, which then leads to a hypertensive crisis. The MAOI class of antidepressants, which phenelzine is a part of, are well known to cause this effect. This is why they are not widely used anymore. Unfortunately, MAOIs seem to have a quicker onset of effects, while the newer antidepressant classes are usually much slower.

can you dumb it down for the lay men such as myself?
🐰 AsherFisc [OP] · 2024-12-10 at 20:01:
Yes. Basically, there’s a chemical compound (tyramine) in cheese that our body is supposed to break down when we consume it. Phenelzine stops the body from breaking down that compound (tyramine), so the concentration of it rises too high. This leads to your blood pressure rising very high—dangerously high.

Option 3: there is no longer cheese on the floor. I have a dog...
Is there a risk of addiction with diazepam and lorazepam as well?
🐰 AsherFisc [OP] · 2024-12-14 at 01:59:
All of the benzodiazepines, including diazepam, lorazepam, alprazolam, clonazepam, temazepam, and many others have the potential to cause addiction and physical dependence.
Why does cheese make the risk of addiction worse?
Do you get addicted to cheese or the drug?
