With that in mind, there is also codeberg, which uses Forgejo.

I just don't know what license to put anymore to avoid LLM scraping, and to avoid microsoft, which just absorbed github and openai and copilot.

@safiire, Licenses only work for humans. corporations and scrapers don't care.

I saw the writing on the wall when they bought github and have been keeping everything I care about offline since then. I share what's useful piecemeal with humans I trust and have been keeping mostly useless crap and some very small contribs on my githubs; it makes finding dev work difficult but so be it. better to be poor than contribute to the extinction of software development as a trade I say.

When the well actually starts to run dry they'll just MITM it at the provider level and harass everyone that hinders them, or lobby the powers that be to implement some pervasive monitoring (hint hint).

I'd dearly love to share my codebase with everyone (beside the corpos looking for a handout) and have a git that's unsnarfable but I've not found something yet. Have been thinking of a fully encrypted system that works for everyone but sneakernet seems a better (long-term) solution, realistically speaking.

If scraper abation is the goal then use the fine projects that others have mentioned in this post, if off-site backup's the issue then end-to-end encryption is the answer, if it's publication of open-source code without giving it away to ms and the like then I don't have an answer yet, unfortunately.
