Computing words about Gemini
This is writing about Geminispace, Gemtext, and so on.
⁂
I want to preemptively mention that, if you’re just starting out as a capsule author, feel free to ignore all this information-architecture haranguing.
If you only kind of want to write, the last thing you need to do is pay attention to how to make edge cases work better for readers that you don’t have yet, and may never have. You can always go back later and add these niceities for other people when it’s actually maybe worth it, instead of probably not worth it.
Really, if you want to get started, just start writing everything on the home page of your capsule. You can cut and paste stuff later to organize it better later on, but you ought to have something to organize first. You know how to cut, copy, and paste text in your text editor, right?
If you publish in Geminispace, I’d bet your writing is being fed to LLMs:
Geminispace is almost certainly being fed into LLMs
Page persistence in Geminispace
Two articles here are kind of a pair. However, the second one is only relevant if you have a capsule of your own:
Save Gemini pages that you like to your hard drive; don’t (just) bookmark them
Put your capsule’s URL in your Gemtext pages
The first page exhorts you to make your archival habits robust to fairly widespread capsule disappearance and abandonment.
The second page exhorts you to make your pages findable again on Geminispace even if they’re saved to someone else’s hard drive.
Finally, I maintain a graveyard of abandoned capsules that I miss:
Other articles
Reviewing your own year in Geminispace with jq and a JSON Feed
What I would have done differently in the Gemtext definition
Not-even-Gemini articles
Unascended Scrawlspace posts
Scrawlspace posts that are very much about Gemini, but don’t have their own pages. As of December 26, 2023, this is almost certainly an incomplete list.
