Small Web July
I stumbled upon the Small Web July challenge on Mastodon as many of the folks I follow there were mentioning it, and the idea caught my interest.
The challenge is hosted by Small Cypress and the idea is to spend less time on the corporate web for the month of July.
I am already mostly on the small web: this blog is hosted by smol.pub, and while the blogging interface is on the "regular" web, the content uses Gemtext and the blog is meant to be gemini first.
Most of my social interactions are on gemini, using Lagrange, with the exception of Mastodon and Bluesky.
For the rest of the month, here is how I intend to limit my access to the corporate web even more:
- Stop scrolling on Bluesky.
- Post on my "named" Mastodon account instead (which crossposts to Bluesky but this way I don't have to look at the bsky app).
- Update my tilde from the command line, as well as use my scripts to update my now page and finger.
- Find some interesting mailing lists that I can join on misfin.
- Document my experience on this blog frequently or semi-regularly.
- Continue to journal with actual pen and paper.
