I know no one asked and take this with a grain of salt. After watching the Switch 2 Direct, the Switch is clearly where I'm getting off the Nintendo train.

Just $80 a game. That's not a "I don't want" that's a "I can't". And $450 for the console in the age of $400 Steam Deck + Steam sales.

And that Nintendo cost isn't even adding in the annual online cost. Which granted it's the cheapest, but it's the cheapest for a reason. Nintendo is not known for their amazing online experience.

But I still can't get over the price tag. That alone, to beat a dead horse meme, "in this economy?" The price alone breaks the deal for me.

@resetreboot While Steam/Valve is generally way nicer about this, I do wanna note that Steam is *also* a subscription service; you don't own your steam game and it may be taken away or become unavailable. Back to OP though, yeah it's definitely ridiculous. I think the only long-term gaming solution rn is to have a Linux PC with pir4ted or DVD-released games, perhaps a few Steam games just for the multiplayer/Steam P2P service. 路 2 months ago

not a gamer, but isn鈥檛 buying once and playing forever a better deal than these subscriptions and stuff that a lot of games are having these days? maybe i am misunderstanding the market. haven鈥檛 played a game since half life 2. 路 3 months ago

The Switch 2 brings a ton of things that the original and the OLED didn't, I don't mind that the console has gotten a bit more expensive in light of that. But yeah, I'm with you on the price of the games, and it seems that a LOT of people are noping out of the system because of that.

I'm sure the system will still do well, it's Nintendo after all. There are some people that would buy it and their games at any price. But I've got my OLED and my Steam Deck, and unless prices drop I'll probably just stick with the Steam Deck going forward. 路 3 months ago

As someone said, for 50 bucks more you have the Steam Deck, with your Steam games and the ability to play homebrew, emulators and other software without hacking your way around. The card that's a license is just ridiculous. The gaming industry crisis is looming ahead. 路 3 months ago

I totally agree.

I wasn't expecting much from the Direct, but it completely blew me away. It's sad that they messed up the prices (and there is also this thing with the physical game cards still needing an internet connection to download the full game... I mean what's that about?), because otherwise it would have been perfect. 路 3 months ago

I don't even go there, but I could live with the 450 bucks for the console, unless that is the price for the light version and you gotta shell out for the dock ect (I did pay more than that fpr my PS5). But 80 for a single game!? That's ridiculous. 路 3 months ago

The only point of console is exclusives. I only got the original switch because SMT V was supposed to be exclusive. Then they went ahead and released Vengance on all platforms. Xenoblades were not bad though. 路 3 months ago

One of my friends said almost the same thing to me last night. It makes total sense to me. 路 3 months ago

The last real console I played was the PS2. I had a Wii but didn't play much. I now play old PC games for nostalgia on my 12 year old desktop. 路 3 months ago

I was a Sega fan. What's a Switch? Kidding aside, the appeal of Nintendo has always been the price to quality ratio. My kids won't be getting one at that price point. Maybe in a few years when the price has come down. 路 3 months ago

To be honest, I mostly played modern games either as a way to hang out with friends or just pure FOMO. Then I lost my Switch during a move two years ago, and though I bought a replacement, I only play it a few times a year. The Switch 2 might be the first Nintendo console since the Gameboy Color that I skip entirely. 路 3 months ago
