Ebooks in Gopherspace (reply to dgold)

--------------------------------------

This is just a tiny entry to say that I really enjoyed reading dgold's

post [1] about his family's use of ebooks, particularly as it seems we

have the same feelings w.r.t. DRM and ebook practicality. To be

honest, I hadn't even considered the environmental consequences of my

reading medium - perhaps when my kids are a bit older (they've just

turned 5) they'll also help me think harder about such things!

And thanks for pointing out KoReader - I didn't even know there was an

option besides the embedded reader. I might give this a go at some

point, particularly if it lets me avoid some of the front-page reading

suggestions that Kobo pushes at me. (I keep wifi off and don't spend

much time in the main menu so these aren't usually too distracting,

but it does annoy me that I can't get rid of them in recent builds of

the kobo software.)
