5.3.9: Style Manager and New Emojis — 5.3.9 is out. Big changes include a Style Manager so you can see and edit all your page styles in one place. Google, Apple and Twitter sprite emojis have been updated (Facebook is lagging). I also updated the Noto Emoji font if monochrome is your thing. Notable fix from a GitHub report: Relative links are now resolved when copying. That's one of those "how did I miss that" bugs.

5.3.6 Released With SVG Support — Thanks to comments in another thread, I resurrected SVG support in Alhena. FYI, Alhena's html-to-gemtext converter also supports inline images including svg, webp, png, gif and jpg. [gemini link] Alhena I attached a nifty litte ET image to test your client.

Alhena 5.3.4 — Alhena 5.3.4 is out. This version fixes bad font sizes when printing (a bug introduced by page styles). It also sanitizes links with technically illegal characters. As far as enhancements, the middle mouse button will open links in a new tab (thanks to a suggestion on GitHub). Page styles get list and content width support. There isn't much pending for 5.3.5. I tweaked the dialogs to look better on MacOS and I'm slowly migrating the builds to Java 25. We'll see if any bugs...

Alhena Tabs and Undefined Ratios — Alhena 5.3.1 is out with the following enhancements: Configurable tab location: Horizontal (top/bottom) or Vertical (left/right) Big Scrollbar option to hopefully address useability on Linux phones There are also bug fixes addressing the busy spinner when opening media in a new tab, resolution issues with certain relative links and an error with empty favicon.txt files. 5.3.0 — Alhena 5.3.0 has been released for completionists. No major enhancements but a few minor ones with the usual smattering of small fixes. Maytag mode is right around the corner. I took German in high school so maybe I'll do a translation first.

Alhena 5.2.9, Data URLs and SoG — Edging ever closer to maintenance mode, Alhena 5.2.9 has a smattering of fixes and a few new features. Most notable is the ability to embed VLC media using data URLs. If you encode into opus, you can actually get a few seconds of suprisingly decent audio in a 4k data URL. BTW, this feature is supported elsewhere (except maybe the opus part) so it absolutely does not violate the "Spirit of Gemini" or "SoG" as it's known in certain erudite circles. [gemini...

Alhena 5.2.6 — The gestation of 5.2.6 is over. New features include optional link icons (so you can visually indentify gemini, http, mailto and data links) and the ability to embed text and images via data urls. Who knew? There's also more than the usual number of small bug fixes. FWIW and whatnot. Edit to add: I found a somewhat annoying bug with link icons and the Bookmark and History pages so 5.2.7 is out.

Alhena 5.2.5 — FWIW, version 5.2.5 is out. It supports printing (and therefore PDFs if you have the right printer driver). There are a few bug fixes and favicon.txt support - off by default. Enjoy in moderation.

5.2.4 Released — Settings->Layout now has an option to render pre-formatted text blocks as images. Why on earth? Because JTextPane is a finicky beast when it comes to monospaced fonts. There are a few corner cases (especially on Windows) where I couldn't get perfect alignment with certain characters. The solution was to "draw" the text myself. [gemini link]

A small yet quite annoying bug — Whenever Alhena is fullscreened (or just changed from the default resolution), the toolbar positions get all wonky. I would just use it windowed but I would need the text size to be smaller to be comfortable at that size and I can't find a setting to change the text size. Either way, I prefer to use apps fullscreen and this is quite an odd error

Alhena 5.2.2 — I haven't heard crickets this loud since the ending of "In A Violent Nature". Wait, was that a tumbleweed? I digress. Version 5.2.1 — There's been a growth spurt. Three releases in three days. The culprit was horizontally scrollable pre-formatted text blocks. That enhancement was a big change and touched a lot of things. Some annoying bugs crept in that QA somehow missed. Suffice to say, the bugs have been squashed, new features have been added and those responsible have been reprimanded. People are saying this is the greatest release of Alhena yet. (...
