After the Great escape from Web browser, I was surprised to find a lot of useful modern apps for the GTK ecosystem, as if someone had made an investment there:
- Newsflash - an RSS reader that can replace Firefox in 99% of text reading cases
- Dialect - a simple translation UI for different API providers, including my favorite, Lingva Translate
- PikaBackup and DejaDup - automatic backups
- Gaphor - UML diagram builder
etc., etc. latest original GNOME looks pretty comfort also (but the desktop features are still a work in progress)
just for info, my eyes getting rest now.

interesting, i found it in gentoo as masked, and in debian it seems ti is not even in sid. which linux did you find it in?
yeah, i see why i didn't install it. it brings lots of ruby dependencies. same reason i don't use midori.
still i understand that's better than web. i wish rss readers didn't use webkit, but something easy to build, like netsurf engine, or dillo's, or very simple html parser.

I've compiled Newsflash only because I plan to make some contributions; everywhere else, I'm using Flatpak.

I don't use newsflash per se, but use its library with my RSS (newsboat) and WWW (convert to PDF) workflow.

btw, on the escapo from browser, this is relevant:

i see people don't allow kids to use computers or phones because 'use' means 'browser' and 'youtube'. but kids can and should learn to use computers: not to click shortcuts.
it is necessary to understand that there is file system, programs and files, and programs may have arguments.
