I mean, I don't get ads on Invideous instances. Sure you're handing data over to someone else, unless you self host your own.

For most creators, the majority of revenue comes in on sponsorships, not the YouTube ads. Plus they'll ask for viewers to become patrons on other platforms. It's a terrifying way to earn a living since your monthly revenue can fluctuate unpredictability and the formula for ad sharing keeps changing. I don't know how creators are saving for retirement or anything like that.

All of it is kind of nuts. I think I would prefer ads in many cases as at least it's obvious that 'a complete lie segment' is coming in -- with sponsorships the entire video is suspect.
