s/Geminispace

Everything meta about the Geminispace, which doesn't fit into s/Gemini, because it's not related to the protocol or Gemtext, and also doesn't fit the more specialized subspaces. E.g. announcements, shutdown notices, random info, even idle chatter.

Perhaps the most comfortable home capsule I have ever seen is: [gemini link] It includes comments, content sorting, and other dyn features. Interesting, what CMS is used there?

HTTP proxies irk me Is it just me? I feel nicely isolated here, and every now and then I am rudely awakened by someone who is lurking from the Web using a proxy. I wish they did not exist.

Are there any BitTorrent catalogs for Geminispace? I have doubts about creating one, but only for the Yggdrasil/Mycelium network. I have a working aggregation project for the backend, which includes tracker(s) + crawler software and a web frontend in Rust. Now, I wish to create the Gemini version.

I wasn't sure where to share this, so I'll share it here. I wanted to share a tiny project I've been working on lately. This started as testing of fastcgi support in yags, but turned into something bigger than I expected. I find myself digging through kennedy and finding some interesting things, that were published quite some time before I got here. So I made very simple site to share links - think something between reddit and HN. There's no comment system, just links + voting. There's no...

E-Commerce: Yay or Nay? — I was wondering how the commercial world would fit in all of this. I don't think most businesses would be interested in a minimalist alternative for their web content. It would be interesting to see if there would any adaptation from big businesses in particular. I my self am thinking about backporting a website that belongs to a small business for someone that I know to Gemini. the webpage is simple HTML and CSS. the basic HTML can easily be translated back to...

I Really Love This Gemini Stuff! — And I'm really enjoying it. At first, I was a bit skeptical, but the more and more I used it the better I understood it. I enjoy the low latency and low data transfer. I enjoy the minimalism. Pure content, while at the same time it doesn't cut back on heavy media data such as images or videos, they are merely second class citizens for most gemini browsers.

Gemini future (and the present) — I was initially thinking about making it as a gemlog post, but I think sharing it on bbs makes it much easier to discuss and interact. I'm a newbie here, but over quite a few years, I've been member of various communities. I wanted to share few observations and thoughts. My main motivation is to trigger discussion and I'm quite curious about comments. I haven't really given it _much_ thought, so this might come out a bit chaotic. TBF, I delayed posting...

How to add weather to a gemini capsule ?? — I'm new in this space, building my own capsule (work in progress) and I watched in some capsules they have weather displayed. so my question is, How can I add the weather to my capsule??.

NewsWaffle is great (but you likely know that already) — I've seen earlier, that it has various news feeds, but somehow I haven't noticed the link that allows you to add basically any website. So, today I've tried CitationNeeded.news - which already is pretty much rss-reader friendly - and it works like a charm. Thank you for this lovely service Acidus ❤️ [gemini link] CitationNeeded via NewsWaffle P.S. And if you don't know CitationNeeded already, you might be interested, as it will likely...

Sharing my new HTTP/S to Gemini proxy — If you have a Gemini browser that supports proxy (like Lagrange) you can stick this in your HTTP secton and give it a try: [preformatted] This is a very simple proxy written in PHP and running behind nginx to handle the certificates. It caches results for 10 minutes because the conversion work can be a bit of a load, but I think the results look really nice. What it does Bullshit Proxy (bsproxy) fetches the target URL, streams it to a temporary...

"Goodreads for Gemini" — Inspired by a comment in u/clseibold's thread: Here's a free idea for an enterprising developer with way too much time on their hands: Make Bookwyrm for Gemini. Bookwyrm is a federated (i.e. connected to the Fediverse) alternative to Goodreads that lets you build reading lists and write reviews for books. Making something like this would not only fit nicely with the overall Gemini...

I started self hosting a podcast client a while back and thought it would be fun to access it via gemini. Its currently a hard WIP and doesn’t support a lot of functionality, can basically just play already downloaded shows and some of the data in my DB is a bit iffy for reasons. But would welcome any early feedback / thoughts. The nice thing is that its dual hosted with the http version so can still manage the missing features from there (for...

Reports of its death are greatly exaggerated — I've seen posts here and there talking about how Gemini and Geminispace is dying, and I dunno, I have seen some capsules go offline but there's still a fair bit of activity. Of course, I tend to check places like BBS, tootik and Midnight.pub which are more social places, I have individual gemlogs in my feeds that I check, and I have some favourite games on Gemini that I come back to. Some capsules are gone, but plenty of them are still around. I...

Favourite Gemini Service? — Discovery on the small web is sometimes difficult and I am sure there are amazing services/applications that I would love to use but don’t know about so wanted to do some crowd sourcing to find out about some of peoples favourites and what they do? Also some of their features which are particularly cool. I’ll start with mine, these are apps/services I use every day services bubble (this bbs) This is just great software, very well thought out and the typographic...
