deal with it, and if you can, try not to make things any worse

What you always have control over is you. Make sure that you do better than they do. Work on yourself, seek the good of others, outperform those who are causing injustice. Become an example to others around you. Be like the yeast fermenting the dough.

feels funny using the text from a meme but it sums it up nicely:

"Hey friend listen, I know the world is scary right now but -

the future is unkowable but will be determined by how hard we fight now for a loving world"

while all the other suggestions are good on an individualistic level they feel selfish to me and don't actually solve any of the problems you're likely seeing. if you're like me then I'd recommend getting involved in organising. Housing/tennants unions or Palestine solidarity groups are good places to start.

What City Slicker said is correct.

News is possibly the most corrosive and damaging drug you can be hooked on. The consequences for your mental health and social relationships are catastrophic, and make heroin and crack look like amateur hour.

It’s krokodil for your brain.

I agree with corscada. Get involved in organizing. I also recommend learning about dialectical materialism to help you with organizing. When you start working on a cause and improving your understanding of systemic problems, and see others working on problems together, you can enact change without resorting to rash individual acts which have a lower impact than long-term steady organizing in groups. Working in organizations comes with many challenges and flaws but if you focus on the goals, then your setbacks and and failures are learning opportunities for better strategies going forward. If you need time to reset yourself and process your feelings, of course do that. But I hope you get involved in some organizing when you can.

I keep seeing all of this injustice and corruption everywhere I look. I always thought that I'd feel better once I turned 18 and would be able to vote and drink and stuff; but I still feel as powerless as ever. I sometimes have dreams about randomly catching a train to London and doing something practical; but that's pretty damn unrealistic. What the fuck can I do to make things better?
